We’ve Solved Thousands of Sewer and Drain Problems
What’s the Sewer Line Repair Process?
The first step of a sewer line repair is to do a thorough and careful diagnosis. We often get calls from customers who say, “Another plumbing company marked the problem area, can you just give me a quote?” Of course, we can do this, but you may actually be moving forward without considering all possible solutions. Our company has been serving customers since 1978. You don’t stay in business that long by rushing customers into expensive decisions, or selling them on quick fixes that won’t solve their problems. We provide lasting solutions at competitive prices.
Getting Eyes on the Problem
Our plumbers will begin by attempting to clear your clogged sewer line. By running our sewer machines from a sewer clean out or pulled toilet, we can attempt to clear the water from the drain line. When a pipe is full of wastewater, it’s difficult to see anything with a camera. Once we have cleared the water from the line, we’re able to run our camera to take a look at what is causing your backed up drains.
Location, Location, Location
Once we visualize the cause of the clogged drain line, we’ll use a locator to determine where exactly the issue is. These locators tell us how far down the sewer line the problem is and how deep the drain is at that point. This information is key to determining just what it’ll take to repair your sewer line.
Consider the Options – Sewer Line Repair or Something Else?
With this information, we’ll walk you through your options. Sometimes we’re able to get you up and running again by jetting your line. Other times relining your sewer line could be the best solution. We’re experienced in all sewer solutions. Often one of the most efficient and cost effective solutions is a sewer line repair. If that’s the case for your home, we’ll write a detailed description of the necessary work, along with the competitive price to complete the work. Of course, no one plans to need a sewer line repair, so financing is available to all of our customers (subject to credit approval). Please, ask our plumbers every question you have! We believe that a happy customer is an informed customer. We want you to feel confident in your decision choosing Aaron Services. We’re happy to walk you through every step of the sewer line repair process.
Safe Excavation
With your approval, we’ll get to work! As an important first safety step, we start by having utilities located. Once we have the all clear, we’ll dig down (normally using one of our excavators) to access the compromised sewer line. This digging looks simple, but requires a skilled and experienced technician. We’ll complete this dig using OSHA compliant practices to ensure everyone is safe every step of the way.
The Actual Sewer Line Repair
After we reach the sewer line, we’ll cut out the problem area of your drain line and, using proper piping materials and fittings, replace the problematic section of pipe. Importantly, we’ll ensure this new section is properly bedded and has the correct fall. We’ll take photos so that you have record of the completed work. We’ll then cover the pipe again, and you will be back in business!
Other Questions About Sewer Line Repairs:
A: It’s not uncommon to find roots in sewer lines. Tree roots are naturally drawn to sources of water and nutrients, and your sewer line can provide them with both. Over time, roots can infiltrate small cracks or joints in the pipes, causing blockages and potentially leading to sewer line damage.
A: There are several reasons why your sewer line may develop cracks. Factors such as aging pipes, ground movement, or excessive pressure from heavy objects above the sewer line can lead to cracks. Additionally, freezing and thawing cycles during colder months can cause the pipes to expand and contract, which may weaken the material and result in cracks.
A: If your sewer line has a belly, it means that a section of the pipe has sunk or sagged, creating a low spot. This can result in a “belly” or dip in the line, causing a backup of wastewater and debris. A belly can occur due to soil erosion, ground settling, or poor installation. It’s important to address this issue promptly to prevent further complications and potential sewage backups.
A: “Proper fall” refers to the correct slope or gradient of your sewer line. A sewer line should be installed with a slight downhill slope to allow gravity to assist in the smooth flow of wastewater from your property to the main sewer line or septic tank. If the slope is inadequate, known as improper fall, it can lead to standing water, slow drainage, and potential blockages. Ensuring a proper fall during sewer line installation or repairs is crucial for optimal performance.
A: Cast iron sewer pipes can pose certain challenges over time. While cast iron is a durable material, it is susceptible to deterioration and corrosion over an extended period. Over time, the inner lining of the pipe may erode, leading to reduced flow capacity and potential blockages. Additionally, older cast iron pipes may have joints that can weaken or develop leaks. If you have an older property with cast iron sewer pipes, it’s important to monitor their condition and address any signs of deterioration or issues promptly.
